Your Derriere and High Waisted Jeans

I want my jeans to make my behind look good. Really good. I want it to look compact and well framed, Some of my high waisted jeans are falling short of this goal so I took a few photos to find out why..

Pocket Placement

This is key for any pair of jeans. I assumed most high waisted jeans would make my bottom look a little bigger, but taller? Have a look at the photo below to see what I mean. I realized that lower set pockets and smaller pockets (to a point) minimize the high-waist-tall-butt phenomena and made my derriere look more true to its actual size. I'm not trying to say that clothes need to make women's parts look bigger or smaller. I'm saying that for me, I prefer pockets that don't make it look like my butt goes half way up my back.

How far apart the pockets are is also a factor. There's a sweet spot but it likely isn't the same for everyone. I take photos to see what's flattering for me. In the photo below The photo are ordered 1-4 with 1 being butt-magnifying and 4 being what I consider most butt-flattering.

1. Gap

3. Forever 21 (similar)

I find J. Crew often does a great job of pocket placement so that's where I shop first for those high waisted pieces. Although my Gap pair are the least flattering to me from behind, I love those pants so much! They give me a clean, slim silhouette from the front and I'll keep wearing them, I just front tuck and let my shirt tail hang down as camouflage or I just leave it, whatever. Now that I know what to look for I can shop wisely the next time around.
